LCS 9 : USS Little Rock Sea Trials

The future USS Little Rock’s (LCS 9) acceptance trials were completed in Marinette, Wisconsin. USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) successfully completed acceptance trials

The future Zumwalt-class destroyer USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) successfully completed acceptance trials on 1st of February 2018

These ships will feature a state-of-the-art electric propulsion system, wave-piercing tumblehome hull, stealth design and the latest war fighting technology and weaponry available.

The Zumwalt-class destroyer will be capable of performing a range of deterrence, power projection, sea control, and command and control missions while allowing the Navy to evolve with new systems and missions. It does all of this while maintaining its stealth – making this visually imposing ship difficult to find whether close to the shore or far out to sea. These warships possess stealth, size, power, survivability systems, and computing capacity that provide the Navy with the ability to meet maritime missions at sea now, as well as incorporate new technologies to meet emerging security environments.

Abu Dhabi Class Corvette Sea Trial

The “Abu Dhabi class” is 88 meters long with a 12 metre beam, has a full load displacement of 1650 tons, can reach a speed of 25 knots with a range of more than 3000 nautical miles at 14 knots (thanks to 2 diesel engines of 7000 kW each) and can accommodate a crew of about 70.

The corvette also has a flight deck and hangar for one small-to-medium sized helicopter and its armament includes an Oto Melara SUPER RAPIDO 76/62 mm gun turret and two Oto Melara MARLIN 30 mm gun turret.

Gowind 2500 Corvette Sea Trial

Delivered just 36 months after the order was placed, the corvette ENS ELFATEH will take to the seas on 23 September to sail to its home port in Egypt. This vessel is the first of the four units ordered by the Egyptian Navy.

This vessel, ten units ordered so far, 4 for Egypt and 6 for Malaysia, complements the group’s extensive range of surface ships and submarines.

Indonesian Navy Sigma 10514 Class Frigate Sea Trials

The 105-metre, 2365 tonne PKR frigates are designed to undertake a wide range of missions in and around the waters of Indonesia, an archipelago nation made up of over 18,000 islands. Their primary mission is anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. However, they are also equipped for maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian support tasks.

US Navy – LCS Shock Trials (video)

US Navy is conducting Full Ship Shock Trials (FSST) for LCS Program. The purpose of FSST is to validate the operational survivability of new construction ships after exposure to underwater shock. Three tests were scheduled for the ship and each test was conducted with a 10,000-pound explosive charge.

USS Jackson (LCS 6) was subjected to the third and final underwater explosion as part of her FSST. There were reports of increased seismic activity around the time of the test. The ship performed exceptionally well, sustaining minimal damage and returned to port under her own power. A large amount of data was collected during FSST on the majority of shipboard systems and the Navy will compile and analyze the data over the next several months.

The US Navy selected Boeing and Lockheed Martin to pursue the Extra Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (XLUUV) program, which will test the Navy’s ability to manage a rapid-acquisition project and the Navy-industry team’s ability to develop and integrate an unmanned system that operates completely independently of manned ships.

Lockheed Martin was awarded $43.2 million and Boeing $42.3 million for the design phase of the Orca XLUUV system and delivery of a technical data package

The two XLUUV design contracts cover a 15-month work period, with a critical design review set for December 2018 and a downselect to one contractor taking place based on the CDR.

As the XLUUV design phase moves on, Boeing would send its Echo Voyager back out to sea in early 2018 for a second set of sea trials, to continue to prove that the vessel holds up to the harsh underwater environment – significant pressure changes throughout the water column and corrosive salt water among them – and that it can take on whatever payloads potential customers might need.
